YEAR 10
General Information
INTRODUCTION
In the past, many students have commented that the step between Years 10 and 11 is too large. To ease this transition, the Year 10 Curriculum at Sacred Heart College to focuses more on the learning and teaching that occurs in Year 11.
Year 10 subjects strongly reflect the rigours of Year 11 study, particularly in Semester Two, and therefore students should commence Year 10 study by setting the highest standards of personal academic endeavour. Dedication and diligence in Year 10 will provide a sound grounding for the successful completion of studies at Sacred Heart College.
Many subjects in Years 11 and 12 require a minimum entry level of achievement, or a pre-requisite grade, established in Year 10. Students wishing to select these subjects in Year 11 and 12 must have demonstrated success in the subject equivalent or pre-requisite in Year 10.
Students in Year 10, together with their parents and Subject Advisor, will participate in the process of subject selection. This selection process will commence in Term 2 and will continue through to Term 4. It is strongly recommended that parents also seek advice from the College Careers Counsellors with regards to post school destinations. Furthermore, issues of time management and study problems may require discussion with the College Psychologist.
Year 10 is a time for families and the College to work together to examine career options and future subject selection. Informed choice will permit students to develop the gifts and talents they already possess and challenge them to strive for excellence in their studies.
Year 10 is an important year for setting goals for the future. Research tells us that:
“The greatest predictor for success is previous success.”
Best wishes for Year 10. As you progress towards Year 12, remember natural ability is worthless without hard work that ensures success in academic pursuits, as well as all other endeavours.

SELECTING SUBJECTS
Subjects will be offered on a year basis and students will need to choose two subjects. The provision of any subject is dependent upon the numbers wishing to study it and the availability of resources. The study of a Language (Japanese/French) and Music in Year 10 requires the successful completion of these subjects at Year 9 level.
Selected students will be invited to participate in the CareerLink program.
