Art
This course is designed for students considering taking ATAR Visual Arts in Years 11 and 12. In Semester One, students explore a wide range of 2D and 3D media, techniques and processes. They study conventions and techniques used in Australian and European landscape painting traditions. This involves investigating and analysing the work of artists from both of these traditions as well as applying the fundamental skills of oil painting. The students also go on an excursion to Sculptures by the Sea in Cottesloe in preparation for the following semester’s project. In Semester Two, students study the work of two Western Australian sculptors to develop ideas and designs for a life-size 3D head which will be adorned with imagery that reflects their transition from childhood into adulthood. Throughout the course, students will learn how to form and justify opinions about the design and meanings of artworks, develop a greater awareness of visual culture and its associated career opportunities, and increase their appreciation of the nature of their own creativity.
