Prerequsite: Nil

Drama offers students many skills that are important for everyday living. Students are encouraged to develop creativity and imagination, to take part in theatre performance and backstage work, and to develop an appreciation for the relevance of theatre in today’s society. The roles covered in Year 10 Drama focus on Direction, Production/Design, and also consolidate on the Actor and Scriptwriter. Each topic contributes to the overall preparation of students wishing to undertake Drama in Years 11 and 12.

Students develop a wide variety of skills and gain experiences in each of the following areas:

  • Storytelling through performance.
  • Elizabethan Drama.
  • Youth on Health Festival (YOHFest).
  • Improvisation.
  • Audition Techniques - Prepare a Monologue.
  • Viewing live theatre.

A considerable part of the course is devoted to the creation of original drama for the Youth on Health Drama Festival, which provides students with the opportunity to develop drama based on relevant youth health issues in the community.

As part of their development throughout the course, students are encouraged to work both in a team environment, in smaller groups and individually when meeting task requirements. Students will also undertake studies in Theatre History, Theatre Style and evaluate Drama in Performance by viewing professional and amateur performances.
