Progress of Subjects
The Mathematics subjects are organised to give every student the opportunity to work at their highest mathematical capability, whilst also giving them the opportunity to soundly understand one level of mathematics before proceeding to the next level.

Assessment
The assessments for Year 10 Mathematics consist of topic tests and investigations. An investigation requires students to plan, research, conduct and communicate the findings of a given problem or mathematical concept. Students may also be given informal assessments, such as quizzes, to gauge their understanding, however, these will not contribute to the student’s final mark. Year 10 Extension, Advanced and Mainstream will have an exam at the end of each semester.

Mathematics Mainstream
This course provides students with some useful applied mathematical tools and fosters an ability to solve problems and carry out mathematical investigations. It provides the necessary background to undertake courses at Years 11 and 12 that lead to tertiary level courses, which have a sound mathematical requirement. These courses include business studies. The background obtained is not strong enough to attempt many maths-related tertiary courses and is not designed to serve this purpose.
