Physical Education Studies
This elective offers a pathway to a STP (formerly known as TAFEWA) in the following Certificate courses:

  • Health
  • Fitness
  • Sport & Recreation.

It may also lead to further studies at a University level particularly in:

  • Sport Science
  • Health Science
  • Human Movement
  • Health & Safety
  • Physical Education Teaching

Rationale
There is a growing awareness in society of the need to be physically active in order to ensure a healthy and active lifestyle. The Year 10 Physical Education Studies elective aims to provide students with necessary skills, knowledge, understandings, attitudes and values required to enable confident participation, enhance performance levels and become better informed community members in selected sports and recreational activities.

Course Outline
Students will actively participate in a range of sporting activities. They will be given opportunities to learn movement skills, strategies and tactics as well as theoretical concepts that are essential in observing and analysing movement. Within the framework of learning about coaching principles, students cover topics such as basic anatomy and exercise physiology as well as cover the social dimensions of sport. Students also learn to use technology in the evaluation of movement skills.

Students will be given the opportunity to learn the basic principles and concepts/ rules in the following areas:

  • Game sense - a basic game strategy that can be applied to a wide range of activities
  • SEPED - Sport Education
  • Fitness and its relationship to a healthy lifestyle
  • Rules, strategies, understandings and associated etiquettes in the selected sports and recreational activities.

Course Requirements
All students will be required to have a responsible approach to all tasks and participate with enthusiasm and perseverance.
