YEAR 7
General Information
INTRODUCTION
Year 7 marks the entry of students into high school. This is an exciting period for our youngest students and their families. Our College endeavours to not only extend the use of each student’s gifts and talents in the curriculum offered, but to assist in the transition into high school through pastorally supporting each student.
All schools in WA are required to teach according to the outcomes set out in the mandated Australian Curriculum. The Curriculum sets out a series of outcomes which describe the knowledge, understandings, skills, values and attitudes that students are expected to acquire through their schooling from Kindergarten to Year 12. In WA Catholic schools, a further Learning Area, Religious Education, has been mandated by the Church.
In Year 7, students at Sacred Heart are given a broad experience across all nine learning areas – Religious Education, English, Health and Physical Education, Humanities, Languages (French or Japanese), Mathematics, Science, The Arts (visual and performing) and Technologies.
Particular attention is given to the holistic view of the curriculum, with an emphasis on teaching vital skills such as literacy, numeracy, digital citizenship and social cooperation, whilst integrating knowledge, skills and values across all learning areas. The fundamental role of curriculum is the promotion of student enjoyment of learning and achieving to one’s potential is continually promoted.
The transition between primary and secondary school is very smooth and the curriculum model we have adopted further assists in this process, regardless of which primary school was attended in Year 6.
I wish each student a happy and successful school career at Sacred Heart College.
