Dance B - Contemporary

In Year 9, Dance students are given more opportunities to choreograph using the elements of dance, choreographic devices and structures for choreographic intent. They extend their technical dance skills and build on their awareness of the body, and how it is used in specific dance styles. They further discuss the choreographer's use of the elements of dance, choreographic devices and structures, and design concepts for choreographic intent in the dances they make and view.

Safe dance practices underlie all experiences, as students perform within their own body capabilities and work safely in groups.
Dance B aims to enhance and extend students’ choreographic and performance skills with an emphasis on Contemporary. Students work in groups to create an original dance work that may be performed on Choreography Night.
A class dance is choreographed with student input to create an original dance.

Students may opt to learn dance for the whole year, or they may choose one of two courses offered; Dance A or Dance B. Content for this course includes:

  • Safe dance practices
  • Communication and terminology
  • Performing
  • Small and large group choreography
  • Responding, reflecting and evaluating dance
  • Dance technique

Students may perform at Choreography Night in Semester Two.
