Fashion and Design

In this hands on semester long unit, students are introduced to a wide variety of sewing, dyeing and fabric manipulation techniques to upcycle denim to create a decorative or functional item made out of recycled materials. The focus of this course is an awareness of sustainable practices in the contemporary fashion industry including repurposing and the use of chemical free processes. This is an engaging subject that encourages students to be creative, develop an awareness of current fashion trends and develop a level of competence in hand sewing.
